The main entrance features a covered walkway floating over a 2,000 square foot reflecting pool of black volcanic candistone. Lined with columns of white palimanan sandstone, the walkways lead you to the East and West bedroom suites which flank the great room, the villa’s central focal point.

The name Mayana was derived from the ancient Mesoamerican civilization and the Sanskrit word ”maya”, meaning ”reflection”. Utilizing gray water, solar panels to heat water, and natural sustainable materials such as bamboo, Mayana’s creators made every effort to fashion a home that reflects harmoniously with its environment.

Construction followed a deliberate theme of rustic simplicity through the thoughtful selection of natural materials such as sandstone, almendro timber columns, bamboo and Cristobal wooden doors and flooring. The result is a blend of casual elegance and comfortable luxury.

The 30-foot high thatched cathedral ceiling of the central living area allows unimpeded views of the expansive surroundings and horizon. Mayana’s construction fits perfectly into its majestic setting as a mountain/beach retreat of incomparable beauty and scale.

The liberating 270-degree vista provides fantastic views of the sunset, stars and exotic local flora and fauna, including toucans, hawks, coatis and howler monkeys. A short drive along the coast to Domenical, Uvita and Ojachal provides easy access to restaurants, shops and local entertainment.

Mayana is beautifully furnished, fully equipped and offers concierge services on site. Each of the four master suites features large private terraces with stunning views of the ocean and jungle, indoor and outdoor garden showers, air conditioning and large walk in closets.

Mayana offers casual, comfortable living areas, both fully air-conditioned and open to the natural surroundings. Incorporating the connecting salas, one located in each wing between bedrooms, can be utilized to accommodate 16 guests.

Villa amenities include open-air dining and living pavilions and a 3,000 square foot free form, infinity-edge swimming pool with natural hand-cut Javanese stone tiles, bordered by broad terraces leading to secluded lounging areas.

A natural fire pit is sited below the pool and hidden from the main residence specifically for enjoyment of spectacular tropical sunsets and conversations continuing through evenings spent under mesmerizing skies, far removed from obscuring city lights.

The upper terrace features an open kitchen and adjoining family room with a large-screen TV, both of which can be enclosed by sliding glass window-walls. From the open-air dining room and adjoining living pavilion enjoy uninterrupted vistas of the ocean, sunset and forested hills.

Mayana’s kitchen is fully equipped and stocked in advance as requested by guests. Guests can request complete privacy or opt for a full complement of services. If desired, meals featuring local and international cuisine can be prepared and staffed to meet your specific requirements.

Framed by twin, gently curving marble staircases, the central lower level features a second kitchen and both open and covered lounging areas perfectly suited for games, barbeques, ping pong, massages, and informal meals.

A 75 acre private reserve surrounds the villa, featuring both natural rainforest areas with hiking paths and beautiful gardens where guests may pick fresh limes, grapefruit and star fruit.

Although only a short walk to Playa Hermosa beach, the reserve offers a completely private tropical rainforest environment, replete with the sounds of nature and the rolling surf. The background harmony and rhythm of tropical life change with the hours of the day, from dawn to dusk and on through the night.

Mayana and its private reserve feature 75 acres of landscaped gardens and natural rainforest, located directly across the street from Hermosa Beach. It is also conveniently located just minutes by car from restaurants, shops and several other famous beaches of Domenical, Uvita, Pinuela, Las Ventanas and the Ballena Marine Reserve.

A scenic 40 minute hike brings you to a natural waterfall and fresh water swimming lagoon. Wildlife commonly seen on the property include howler and capuchin monkeys, coatis, agouties, sloths, toucans, aracaries, hummingbirds, parrots and dozens of other birds.

The famous Nuayaca waterfall is located a short drive away. Other day trips include Osa Peninsula, home of Drake’s Bay and Corcovado National Park, one of the greatest remaining natural reserves on earth.

A 17 minute commuter flight from San Jose to Quepos followed by a 25 minute drive down the recently completed coastal Costanera Sur highway will bring you to Mayana’s gates.
